Somewhere Else is built around places — small, private spaces for people who know each other. These standards exist to keep those spaces worth being in.

What Somewhere Else Is

Somewhere Else is a place-based communication platform for adults. It is not a public social network. Places are private, access-controlled spaces shared among people who have chosen to be there together. The platform is designed for genuine, real-world-adjacent connection — not broadcasting, not performance, not commerce.

Who It’s For

Somewhere Else is for adults 18 and older who want a quieter, more intentional way to communicate with people they actually know or have chosen to connect with. If you’re here, you’ve been trusted with access to a place. Honor that.

Core Expectations

  • Be real. Use your genuine identity. Don’t impersonate anyone.
  • Be present. Contribute meaningfully to the places you’re in. Don’t lurk with intent to surveil.
  • Be respectful. Disagree like an adult. Don’t demean, mock, or belittle.
  • Know the law. If something is illegal, it doesn’t belong here — full stop.

What Belongs Here

Somewhere Else works best for:

  • Staying connected with people you know in real life
  • Small group coordination and communication
  • Sharing moments, updates, and conversation in a private setting
  • Building context and connection with people you’ve chosen to connect with

If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face in real life, think twice before saying it here.

What Is Not Allowed

Zero tolerance: Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
Any account found to be sharing, storing, or facilitating the distribution of CSAM will be immediately terminated, reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and referred to law enforcement. No exceptions.

Illegal activity and content
You may not use Somewhere Else to conduct, coordinate, plan, or conceal any illegal activity. This includes but is not limited to: buying or selling illegal goods or controlled substances, trafficking, fraud, extortion, money laundering, and criminal coordination of any kind. The fact that a place is private does not make illegal activity within it permissible.

Harassment and abuse
Threatening, intimidating, stalking, or persistently harassing another user — whether inside a place or through connection requests — is prohibited. This includes coordinated harassment by a group.

Impersonation
Creating an account or place under someone else’s identity, or misrepresenting your identity in a way that deceives others, is not allowed.

Non-consensual intimate imagery
Sharing intimate or sexual images of a person without their consent is prohibited and may be illegal in your jurisdiction.

Spam and manipulation
Using the platform to send unsolicited bulk messages, generate fake connections, or manipulate others through deceptive means is not allowed.

Platform abuse
Attempting to circumvent security controls, probe or attack our infrastructure, scrape data, or otherwise undermine the integrity of the platform is prohibited.

A Note on Ephemerality

Places are designed to be ephemeral — messages roll off over time. But ephemeral does not mean consequence-free. Content that is reported does not disappear. We retain a snapshot of reported content, and that record may persist indefinitely. Violations have a paper trail, even if the messages that led to them no longer appear in the thread.

Reporting

If you encounter content or behavior that violates these standards, use the in-app report function. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. When you submit a report, include as much context as you can — we see a snapshot of the thread at the time of the report, so detailed context in your report text helps us act appropriately.

Enforcement

We take reports seriously and act on them. Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, we may:

  • Remove specific content from the platform
  • Issue a warning to the account holder
  • Suspend access to the Service temporarily
  • Permanently terminate the account
  • Report to law enforcement where legally required or appropriate

We determine the appropriate response at our sole discretion. We are under no obligation to notify you of action taken on a report you filed, though we will do our best to follow up where we can.

These Standards Will Evolve

As Somewhere Else grows, these standards will be refined. We’ll update this page when that happens. The goal stays the same: a platform worth trusting.
